Year on year online marketing trends are rapidly growing.
Take Facebook for example – this was set up by Mark Zuckerberg and a few of his college roommates at Harvard University back in 2004. This website was initially limited to the founders use but with its growing popularity look where it is today.
What are the keys to growing your Business? Some of the bigger trends in 2016 included a shift in platform dynamics. Until recent years the 3 big “P”s were LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter – in that order initially. Today, that popularity has changed and we now have the addition of instagram, Snapchat, Pinterest, Periscope and many more.
What will be the main trends for 2017?
Firstly, please take on board the fact that not all trends will help all businesses. Think of them as Motorways – all of the motorways are necessary but not for all journeys. Here’s the order in which I believe trends will bloom in the year ahead.
- Content will always be King
Irrespective of what technology you choose to use it will only help grow your Business if your message is crystal clear. Potential customers must understand your offers to them. How exactly are you offering to help? Your message must be unique to attract others before your competitors.
- Live Streaming is growing ever popular
For some time now video content has been a great seller. We have seen a huge spike in sales. Initially, only some of the platforms hosted video but now you can upload a video to most places. As we are becoming a more “I want it now” Nation live streaming video is ideal. Facebook Live will probably race ahead. Facebook Live
- Snapchat for Short Lived Content
Snapchat is already very popular with our younger people. It’s quick and easy. The content lifespan is zero – there it was – gone! In 2017 businesses will latch on to this contact platform. Being the throwaway society that we are Snapchat is ideal for many businesses.
- A growing trend is Augmented Reality (AR)
Augmented reality is the integration of digital information with the user’s environment in real time. Unlike virtual reality, which creates a totally artificial environment, augmented reality uses the existing environment and overlays new information on top of it.
Boeing researcher Thomas Caudell coined the term augmented reality in 1990, to describe how the head-mounted displays electricians used when assembling complicated wiring harnesses worked. Now the technology is used in many industries including healthcare, public safety, gas and oil, tourism and marketing. AR applications for smartphones typically include global positioning system (GPS) to pinpoint the user’s location and its compass to detect device orientation.
- Mobile Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
You’re right – SEO has been around a long time. It started in the mid 1990’s. Sadly, to this day, not many are using it to its full potential. Like most amazing tools available now, SEO is brilliant when properly used. Unless you regularly track the progress of your business growth then marketing is essential a waste of investment.
- Mobile Responsive Websites
Today all websites must be “mobile responsive”. We need the same code to work across multiple platforms so that content properly appears everywhere in an instant—no matter what type of device is used, be it laptop, mobile phone, tablet or other mobile devices.
To help with this, in October 2015, Google introduced Accelerate Mobile Pages (AMP) to dramatically improve your mobile websites. Google Official AMP Blog
Two of our tasks for 2017 at Agnes Fitzgerald Marketing are to work with new clients to make their websites “mobile responsive” and have all businesses on Facebook provide the correct information, especially easy contact info.
